SGM Magnets

MEGA SCRAP MAGNET

Description
SGM has developed an innovative lifting magnet designed for handling various types of scrap, including pig iron, shredded steel, shear scrap, turnings, plate cuttings, steel sheet bales, and heavy demolition scrap. Transitioning from a conventional circular scrap magnet to the SGM Mega Scrap Magnet can significantly reduce the time required for scrap handling processes, whether loading or unloading, by half. This advanced lifting magnet offers a lifting capacity that is 60-70% greater than that of traditional circular scrap magnets, achieved through SGM’s patented double magnetic circuit design. This design ensures homogeneous distribution of scrap across the entire magnetic circuit.

ELECTRO, LIFTING MAGNETS FOR BILLETS, BEAM BLANKS, BARS AND SLABS

Description
SGM’s Electro Lifting Magnets for handling billets, beam blanks, bars, and slabs are specifically tailored to address the unique challenges associated with these materials. These magnets are meticulously engineered in both mechanical and electrical dimensions to ensure they meet the rigorous demands of such applications. These environments often involve severe mechanical shocks, continuous operation cycles, and potentially high temperatures. Utilizing anodized aluminum as an electrical conductor enhances the SGM Electromagnets’ ability to dissipate heat effectively. This feature makes them exceptionally well-suited for applications requiring high duty cycles and/or exposure to elevated temperatures.

ELECTRO LIFTING MAGNET FOR BUNDLES OF ROLLED STRUCTURAL SECTIONS AND REBAR

Description
Handling bundles of rolled structural sections and rebar can pose significant safety risks and often results in damage to the loads, especially when using chains and slings. Recognizing these challenges, SGM collaborates closely with the steel industry to develop solutions that enhance efficiency, improve safety, and minimize damage during the handling operations of steel structural sections bundles.
Some other benefits include:
  • No need for spacers between bundle layers.
  • Reduced labor requirements with handling tasks feasible by a single operator.
  • No need to inspect slings and chains for wear and damage.
  • Increased storage capacity by eliminating walkways between bundle stacks.
  • Faster handling with capability to handle up to 6 bundles simultaneously.
  • Streamlined handling process without the manual attachment of slings and chains to bundles.

ELECTRO LIFTING MAGNET FOR HOLLOW SECTIONS

Description
Through close collaboration with the steel industry, SGM has developed various solutions over the years for handling hollow steel sections such as steel pipes, circular welded tubes, square tubing, and rectangular tubing. SGM’s magnets designed for these applications are compact in height, allowing the overall magnetic system height to remain minimal. Additionally, SGM’s electronic control system is equipped to adjust the magnetic force across multiple levels and monitor magnet temperatures. It also includes features for controlling motorized telescopic spreader beams and facilitating communication for system integration into automated setups.

ELECTRO LIFTING MAGNET FOR HORIZONTAL EYE COILS

Description

SGM has developed an electro lifting magnet designed for handling all types of coils weighing up to 45NT, including:

– Hot Rolled
– Cold Rolled with coating
– Cold Rolled with packing

The SGM magnetic system incorporates an exclusive proprietary safety device (CDMD) specifically designed to monitor two critical aspects of this application:

1. Potential vertical flexing of the coil turns when lifted by the magnet.
2. Ensuring proper contact between the magnet polarities and the coil, particularly when dealing with strap closing clips, the last turn position of thick sheets, and irregular packaging thickness.

The CDMD enables the detection of potential safety hazards. If the safety factor coefficient is not met, crane travel will halt automatically, requiring the operator to restart the lifting process.

ELECTRO LIFTING MAGNET FOR STEEL PLATES

Description
When handling plates using magnets instead of slings, chains, and clamps, a single operator can safely manage operations from either the crane cabin or from a safe distance on the ground. SGM’s magnet control systems offer the capability of partially energizing the magnet, allowing for selective picking of plate quantities, even with thin gauges. The feathering options on the SGM magnet control system enable partial release of plates onto different stacks, as demonstrated in the accompanying video. This feature simplifies the process for operators, eliminating the need for spacers between plates during lifting. After completing the picking operation, the magnet automatically switches to 100% full force mode to ensure safe transportation. Using SGM’s lifting magnets eliminates the risk of dents or scratches caused by slings or chains, thereby preventing quality issues that could lead to customer claims.

ELECTRO LIFTING MAGNET FOR WIRE COILS

Description
Using an SGM lifting magnet for wire coils allows a single operator to manage the handling operation from the crane cabin or via remote control. In contrast, using C-hooks requires either an additional operator to guide the crane operator in centering the wire coil or the crane operator to verify centering themselves, resulting in longer handling times and closer proximity to the load. SGM electromagnets significantly reduce damage to wire coils compared to C-hooks since contact is limited to the upper surface of the coil. Additionally, because contact is restricted to the top part of the coils with SGM electromagnets, storage space is optimized. There is no need to leave space between coils, which is necessary when using C-hooks. Consequently, more wire coils can be stored, and truck and wagon space can be better utilized.
